Reduce pilot workload in Helionix cockpit
The Video Converter Unit VCU-20 was developed for helicopters installed with Airbus Helicopters' state-of-the-art avionics suite Helionix, namely H135, H145 and H175 of the same manufacturer as well as BK117D-2 of Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
By converting analog RGB into SMPTE292M (HD-SDI) signals, it enables images from PCs and optional devices such as map generators to be shown on the Helionix displays.
The VCU allows pilots to fly with their eyes fixed ahead on the MFDs, eliminating the need to look aside for checking other monitors added for images that are otherwise incompatible with Helionix. Thus, it improves situational awareness and reduces pilot workload. Such benefits are valuable for airmen, particularly those engaged in critical missions such as first responders.

Conversion to STANAG 3350 also available
The VCU also has two channels of NTSC → STANAG 3350 Class B conversion. If you are flying a helicopter with STANAG 3350-compatible MFDs, you can show NTSC video (such as images from an outboard camera) on them with this product.
In addition, the VCU has an option to convert analog RGB into STANAG 3350 class C instead of HD-SDI.
